TWO YEARS FULL TIME DIPLOMA

The Screenwriting Diploma course prepares talented, dedicated writers for work in the film and television industries. By the end of the course, the graduating screenwriter will have had the opportunity to complete a range of work for their portfolio, which demonstrates their talent as a professional writer. The course is taught by working professional writers; students graduate with an industry mentor; instructions are made to commissioning editors and producers and the course acquits students with the main aspects of the profession of writing.

Unlike a screenwriting based in an academic institution, this course will also be set in a writing film and television studio. It covers all aspects of screenwriting from the development of ideas through to production and post-production- all in a practical setting.

Screenwriting students have their writing work-shopped by professional directors and actors. Working with student producers and directors they have the chance to see their writing tested in production. The screenwriting curriculum includes opportunities to collaborate with directing students from fiction, documentary and editing. CREATIVE LAND also includes master classes from eminent practitioners in all fields, special events and regular previews of current film releases.

 

CURRICULUM

THE FIRST YEAR
The course deals with the following;

  • basic principles of storytelling
  • the craft of screenwriting for film, Video and television
  • the collaborative nature of production via exercises with other departments
  • some shorter writing assignments
  • the formal ground work for writing – length material
  • Other general courses.

THE SECOND YEAR
The course will with following;

  • A project-based course focusing on longer writing assignment
  • Individual talent and interest development which includes full length screen plays (e.g movie or television- hour) plus a short piece (e.g soap or sitcom)
  • Specialist module tailored to the interest of students.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants will have developed talent for writing (plays, screenplays, novels, and short stories), a body work, a fund of ideas and the desire to express them in screen form. Applicants may find themselves in a stronger position if they have some life experience a swell as an aptitude for and dedication to dramatic writing. Professional experience in any field is an advantage, in particular work or film, TV or theatre, or allied fields.

If your first language is not English, please note that fluency in English is essential for the Screen/script writing Diploma course.
